Respect local customs and dress codes. When visiting temples in Vietnam, Cambodia, or Laos, cover your shoulders and knees. In Laos particularly, removing shoes before entering homes and temples is essential.

Support local businesses. Choose locally-owned restaurants, guesthouses, and tour operators over international chains. The money stays in the community and the experience is invariably more authentic.

Reduce plastic waste. Bring a reusable water bottle, refuse single-use plastic bags, and say no to plastic straws.
